Victoria Thistle?

Can anyone comment on the London Victoria Thistle?

You might want to do a search on this topic. I posted the following about a week ago.

Author: JoeE
Date: 04/03/2003, 11:12 pm
Message: We have just returned Sunday, March 30, from a seven-night stay at the Thistle Victoria on an American Airlines vacation package. We couldn't have been more pleased with it for our first stay in London. Access is so easy from the Gatwick Express. There are two short flights of stairs from the train station lobby up to the hotel lobby. One flight of about four steps and the second flight of about ten steps. The lobby and staircase are regal. The room was very nice. The towel warmer in the bathroom was convenient for drying our washables. While in our room, we weren't aware that we were near the train station. Many city busses depart from the plaza in front of the train station. The tube is just a few steps down from the station level. We didn't think the area was seedy at all, especially compared to the area around the Munich and Frankfurt train stations. There are several decent restaurants (including a pub) in Victoria Place two levels up from the train station. We would seriously consider staying there again.

We felt totally safe. The area around the train station isn't "seedy" as it is around many city train stations. However, you always need to be alert for pickpockets who are looking for an easy target. About ten bus lines converge on the hotel so that bus service is very convenient. The tube station is just one or two short flights of stairs down.

I wouldn't stay near victoria. It's far nicer to stay near Picadilly at the Regents Park or at the Strand hotel for a very central inexpensive location.

I loved staying there. The staff was very helful and easy to take a train for out of town visits and most of all. it's close to Sloan Square which is one of my favorite areas.

I take exception with the poster who said to stay near Picadilly rather than Victoria. Saw just as many weird people near Picadilly! Actually, we stayed at the Rubens Hotel last year which is only a couple of blocks from Victoria Station. Lots of places to eat and convenient to many sights.
