Victoria St. Station Question

Is the Victoria Station also the Victoria Tube station? We are planing on staying at the Thistle Victoria the early part of next year. I have read on their website that the hotel is attached to the Victoria Station, and we plan on taking the Gatwick Express to our hotel. Someone told me that the tube isn't in the same station, and is actually a few blocks down the street. Can anyone clarify this for me? Thanks!

They are within the same "network" of a station. While there may be another entrance to Victoria Tube a couple of blocks away, it is possible to connect from the train to the tube without going outside. Like many other London tube or train to tube connections, sometimes it is a pretty good walk, but the signs make the connections pretty easy.

Steps lead directly down from Victoria main line station into Victoria tube station. Someone may be getting confused with Victoria Coach Station (for long-distance buses) which is a few blocks away from the railway station.

Patrick- thanks for the clarification. Geoff, we aren't concerned with the bus station at all- although, from reading this board I understand that it is easy to confuse the bus station and the train station as being in the same location. Since we booked this trip, I've been under the impression that the Tube and the train both came into the same station, and I am learning that this isn't the case, necessarily. I'm hoping that it won't be more than a 5 minute or so walk to get to the Tube.

As I tried to explain in my previous message, the tube station is beneath the entrance to the main line station. Stairs lead directly down to the tube station. You don't have to walk through the streets at all.

I hope I haven't confused you either. It is the same station -- but the station is quite large. Actually I'm a little confused about your question now that I think about it. If your hotel is attached to the station, why do you need to transfer from the Gatwick Express to the tube? Seems like you will just exit into your hotel.

And now that I think about it, guess we stayed at that hotel a few years ago just for one night before taking the Gatwick Express out to depart. It wasn't a Thistle then. The hotel lobby actually has an entrance right into the main lobby of the station, so this is ideal. I'm not sure how the tube station comes into play in this.

I'm afraid I wasn't too clear in my post- I spliced two different thoughts together. We will be taking the Gatwick Express in from the airport, but were concerned with the tube stop location for sightseeing/general use during our stay. My mom found a map from our previous stay in London that showed the Victoria train station and the Victoria tube stop as having 2 different entrances. (This confusion has now been cleared up!) Thank you both very much for your help. In searching around on the internet I have seen that the Victoria station was extremely large, but wasn't sure if it was all connected- until now. Thanks again for your help!
