victoria-jungfrau worth the money ?
I will be leaving the Lucerne area and going to Interlaken and have reservations at the Victoria-Jungfrau. Is it worth the $$$$$; it is very expensive. My wife and I enjoy 5 star hotels, but I have read good and bad about this one. Please e-mail: [email protected]

There's another fine hotel in Interlaken -- the Beau Rivage.
http://www.beaurivage-interlaken.ch/
It's lovely and the food and service are first-rate. However, we found Interlaken to be too busy -- not the idyllic Swiss mountain village we had in mind. We stayed at the Strandhotel Belvedere in Spiez, on the shores of Lake Thun. http://www.silencehotel.com/strandho...lvedere?lang=e

The VJ is expensive, but it's a decent place. Although it has a view of the Jungfrau off in the distance, I prefer the Hotel du Lac, which has a waterside setting at the eastern end of the town. Also quieter. The VJ is perilously close to the tourist crush on Hoheweg, Interlaken's main street, not my idea of the most desirable location. If I had my druthers, I'd stay up in Murren, which has one of the most spectacular settings on the planet.

V-J much overrated, and overpriced. The Beau Rivage is a much better, if less splashy, choice if you demand a 5-star hotel. It's better located, and quieter. The du Lac (****) would also be my choice, though, if you must stay in Interlaken.

You'd enjoy a far better ambiance staying in one of the mountain villages. You could stay in one of the excellent suites at the Eiger in Mürren for less, probably, than you would pay at the V-J or Beau Rivage. See
http://www.muerren.ch/eiger
