Hi Eks - Metro del Mare has a hydrofoil service from Naples to Vico.

http://www.metrodelmare.com/

You could go via Capri as I suggested or via Naples. I would think Capri might be quicker - depending on connections - but probably not a lot in it.

Hope this helps ...

Steve

Yes, it helps, Steve! When I looked briefly at the timetable, though, I could not find out if that Vico service ran in late September....(???)

After all of the help you have offered, I would like to treat you for dinner!

Steve_James Apr 14th, 2009 04:58 AM

Eks - The Metro del Mare website lists the MM2 & MM3 autumn services from Naples to Vico-Seiano from mid Sept to mid Oct.

But it's ONLY 2 services daily:

MM3 - dep. Naples Bev. 08.25
MM2 - dep. Naples Bev. 14.15

If you leave Ischia on an early ferry/hydrofoil you could catch the 08.25 - and be in Vico by 09.00.

The alternative (- if you still prefer to go via Naples) - would be -

- Circumvesuviana to Vico OR
- ferry/hydrofoil to Sorrento, then train/taxi

If you can't make the 08.25 MM3 ... I'd probably go via Capri (- that route you'd still be in Sorrento by lunchtime).

Steve

P.S. Hey - just put the limoncello in the post ;)

eks - Have you ever used the Campania Arte Card that includes transportation? I noticed on a brochure I picked up in September 08 that it included a r/t on tne MM. I didn't buy the card, but I think I would have been better off if I had.

ekscrunchy Apr 14th, 2009 01:23 PM

Ky: I have not! But I will look into it. Thank you for pointing this out to me..

Now, SteveJames, I am glad I am located far away from you so I do not have to hear you sigh with annoyance when I write this, after all of the help you gave me about Vico Equense.

I think you have inadvertently convinced me to substitute a stay in Capri for one in Vico Equense! As long as I can be pretty certain of making it to the airport in time for a 1pm flight, I could spend the last 2-3 nights of the trip on Capri and leave Vico for another time. I had been so set on spending the last night on the mainland that I did not consider Capri...

But there seem to be early ferries from Capri that would allow me to reach the Naples airport in time for my 1pm flight, on a Sunday....

I started a new thread about Anacapri and hope that you, and everyone else with experience on the island, will offer your opinions!

Steve_James Apr 15th, 2009 02:07 AM

Eks - I'd choose Capri over Vico any day ;) So ... you've decided to risk it?

Steve

ekscrunchy Apr 15th, 2009 03:13 AM

Yes, I am leaning that way! I know you will not steer me wrong! PLease see new Capri/Anacapri thread and let me know what you think! Many thanks!!

'I know you will not steer me wrong!'

I can only tell you what I'd do, Eks. Personally I'd risk it - but then I'm happy living dangerously :) Others will tell you not to.

I'd check the weather forecast on the last couple of days. IF there was any doubt, leave the day before. Only you can decide ...

Promise me you won't sue ;)

Oh, dear! I certainly am leaning toward spending the last night there, and I know there is no guarantee. But there is always that sticky issue of the hotel charging for the last night's booking if you check out early.. Actually, before I book a hotel I might ask about that..

Anyway the chances of cancellation in September are so slim, from what I now understand, that I don't think it is too much of a gamble......

Now, about that potential lawsuit........

Eks
we stayed at the "Grand Hotel Cocumella" (a converted Monastry i think) in SA a few years ago (which was Fabulous) the walk into Sorrento is a good walk of about 15/20 minutes but you are away from the tourists hordes. We found the proximity to the station good (a 5 to 10 minute walk in the other directions and so easy for getting to Pompeii) and has great views of the sea and of course vesuvious (sp?)
For a very special restaurant treat we went to the Don Alfonso (the hotel arranged a car it was about 45mins away) 3* michelin only one south of Rome (or so i think at the time) but it really was lovely.
Not sure if any of the above was any help!!

Ok just read some reviews on TA about the Cocumella, doesnt sound like its fairing so well. It really was a lovely place when we stayed and very elegant must be about 5 years ago now.

ekscrunchy Apr 16th, 2009 04:06 AM

Smeagol: Thanks! I had read those reviews because it does sound like a lovely place. But it does sound as if things are not what they were. I am now leaning towards forgetting the Sorrento area and spending the last few nights of the trip on Capri. So please chime in if you have been there!! (see thread about Anacapri vs Capri) Thanks again!

Smeagol Apr 16th, 2009 05:17 AM

I have been to Capri but sadly it was just a day trip. REALLY liked it and our next trip to that area will definately involve a few days on Capri. Are you going to Pompeii?

ekscrunchy Apr 17th, 2009 02:48 AM

S: No--we visited Pompeii last year and have only one week, again, this time. We are beginning the week on Ischia.

Seiano/Vico Equense is ideally located for visiting Capri and all the other Amalfi coastal resorts.it's a quite town with 200 inhabitants and the location offers spectacular views over the Gulf.Transportationferry, train and bus are within walking distance. Have a look for reference:
