ViaMichelin--I'm in love!
WOW!!! I've seen several references in the last few days for this map routing site and now I am hooked on playing with my itineraries (now, driving around Italy in November).
This is another reason to love Fodors, so thank you! Ain't it great when you realize there is still cool stuff to be found on the Internet? |
You might also like to try google maps (just google as usual, then click on 'maps.' Like viamichelin you can get driving directions, and also fabulous satellite photos. Note that you can 'zero in' on many photos to the point where you can guesstimate which building is your hotel, for example.

Thanks, Sue, I'll do that, as well!

Google Earth is a great way to find how far away your hotel is from the sights you want to see in the big cities, which are in great detail. Smaller places are fuzzy.
ViaMichelin is great for itineraries, and Mappy is really good for maps, too. Mappy is owned and operated by France Telecom, which makes me wonder what countries other than France have great routing and map sites. |
Via Michelin can save you a great deal of money. Speed cameras in Europe are becoming more and more prevalent and if you get a ticket, even if you do not find out until months after you have turned in your rental you need to pay it. Via Michelin shows you were the speed cameras are in France and may do so in other countries as well. Not sure if Google Maps and other driving programs do this.

No need to refer to viamichelin's speed camera locations in order to save money.
Just respect the speed limit! |
