Vezelay- hotel recs???
 

We're looking for a mid-range hotel room with air conditioning... Maybe $100-150 for a triple room. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Vezelay is a very small town with a limited number of hotels (mostly like inns or B&Bs) and some listed as in the town are actually a little out in the countryside. And I'm not aware of any of them that have AC.

Sorry - we stayed at the Moulin de Ruats in nearby Avallon - which is a little more hotel-like (25 rooms) but also did not have AC. In the beginning of June we didn't need it. This was 5 years ago - so don;t know what rates are now - but then it was very reasonable (and the food was fantastic).

Vezelay only has about 5 hotels -- 2 3* and 3 below that. One of them does have AC, the Hotel de la Poste et du Lion d'Or:

I haven't stayed there but read good reviews about it, like on Tripadvisor, and it looks nice on the web.

The other 3* is the Residence Hotel le Pontot. I don't think it has AC and it's very small. It's listed online in Karen Brown's guide.

Both should be in your price range.

We'll be there mid-June as well. We were in Germany last summer and it was SO hot! I know the weather can be unpredictable, but we would like a/c if possible. If not, then no big deal. Would you recommend Vezelay for 2 nights?

We spent the night in Avallon at Moulin des Ruats this past November. The setting is lovely, but recommend you ask about the size of your room if you decide to stay there. Our standard room on the first floor overlooking the river was tiny..add to that a sloped ceiling and we could hardly move.

I recently asked about how long to stay in Vezelay, and the overwhelming response was "just a couple of hours." It's apparently VERY small. Beautiful church and a nice view, by most accounts. But people didn't think it was worth spending even one night.

Might it make a nice base for the region? We are coming from Ambroise on our way to Burgundy...

As I stated in your other post, I think Vezelay is a 2 hr visit max. Been there twice - last Sept & 30 years ago. I would base in Dijon if you want to be centrally located and stay in only 1 place.

We spent 2 weeks in Burgundy this past Sept, & 2 weeks in Beaujolais. We stayed just south of Beaune, and it was too long of a drive to visit Vezelay, Auxerre, Tanlay, Noyers, Ancey le Franc, Tanlay, Fontenay and the other sites noth of Dijon. We visited all these places (and more) but we spent too much time in a car on the freeway.

We have stayed at the Hotel de la Poste et du Lion d'Or in Vezelay three times over the last several years. We always enjoyed our stay there and would recommend it. As far as how many nights, it would depend on what all you planned to see and do in the area. We have only stayed one night each trip, but were on our way to Paris or elsewhere. There would be plenty to see and do if you were planning short day trips in the Burgundy area.
