I have three favorite threads. One was the "tacky tourist" series that spun off into the "anti tacky tourist brigade" and others. Then there was the one started by some guy named Ron who wanted tips on how to find "wimmen" in Paris. The advice he got was classic.
At the end we had suggested that Ron
stand shoeless and shirtless on a street corner in the Montmartre waving a fistful of "Yankee Green" in one hand and a six pack of Budweiser in the other. His clothing consisted of tight Wrangler jeans, a cowboy hat, a large belt buckle, and a bandanna to wipe away the tobacco juice. He was also given advice as to where he might find some "wimmen" too. Like certain galleries at Musee d'Orsay, and that shapely female at the Louvre called Venus.
A thread that comes in a close third was the one where someone wanted to know a good place in Paris to rekindle a relationship publicly. I think the ultimate suggestion was to visit Versailles and roll the bed out of the king's bed chamber into the Hall of Mirrors.

Bob, I haven't even read those threads and I'm laughing. Will have to search now and find them.

One of my favourites is the "Most Memorable Meals" - just brought it up (uhhh, that is the topic, not a meal.......never mind!)

Also - can't remember the title - but the teenage girl in the pool with the older French man was the source of spirited debate - does anyone remember that one?

I loved the limericks and "I was drunk..." - those are clear winners. Also "It's a small world after all," a thread I started and "Where are you?" both which for whatever reason can't be found using the search. And also, for totally different reasons, I think the thread about Al's loss and fortune for not being on the Egypt Air flight is something special.

Yes, Al's story was heart-wrenching, and amazing.

I wish the Dr. Abate debate was still here. There must be hundreds of threads or single comments on Fodors that are gems. Some of my favourites are Brian in Atlanta's limericks (sorry, I don't know where the classic is about traveling to Italy with his Aunts), reports by Neal Sanders that begin "Herewith a report" (often in the US section) and any Bob Brown story, just to name a few. And anything about airplane seats is always fun.

I think I remember the girl and swimming pool theme.
As I recall she was playing "tag" in a swimming pool when some Romeo decided to the game needed a little more action. She was upset by the more intense physical attention she received.
There was also one that probably would be branded elitist by some, but I thought it was funny. I don't recall now which one it was but it consisted of parodies of the types of questions that tourists ask. There had been a series of unrelated questions by people asking about the impact that might be caused by taking a 12 year old girl to a nude beach in Italy. Then someone asked "Will they know I am a nude tourist if I take my clothes off." I wish I could remember where it was.

Check out the current "Mole people in NYC?" on the US forum--it's getting funnier by the day.

Caitlin has a point about the Molepeople. (It echoes of Tolkien!!) But I get the impression some people believe that stuff!!

It certainly seemed like the original poster was serious when she asked how we could ride the subways knowing that "those people" were down there...

Where are You? remains my favorite, followed by Elvira's Loons - and for an entirely different reason, Al's poignant thread following the death of his daughter. That one was gut-wrenching. Hugs to you and your wife Al.

Bob Brown -

To answer your question of 4-21 on where was the quote of "will they know...", look at the first answer to the "I was drunk..." thread.
