Very good 5* Priceline deal for Venice

I noticed someone on BiddingforTravel.com posted that he/she had won a 5* bid for the Hilton Molino Stucky, a fairly new Hilton hotel on the Giudecca. The bid price was $135 USD, plus taxes and fees.

Converted to Euros, the winner ends up paying about 105 Euros per night.

I'm sure this is because the bid is for mid-January, and many people wouldn't want to stay on the Giudecca, but I think anyone would have to agree that's a pretty good deal. And of course, if you do bid for a 5* hotel on Priceline, you could end up with some other 5* hotel.

As a side note, I just happened to read the other day that the Hilton Molino Stucky is offering gondolier training, for something like $520 for 3 hours.

I agree that it's a very good deal, but I suppose the additional "taxes and fees" include VAT/IVA, which is 20% in a luxury hotel.

Also, breakfast probably comes in at around 25-30 Euro per person.

The 105 Euro rate is a conversion from the total USD rate including taxes and fees, so the VAT is included in that.

For breakfast, it looks like they have three different restaurant options, but none are cheap I'm sure.

Another complication is that you would have to figure out the vaporetto schedule so you did not miss the last one "home". Maybe this hotel has private launches.

If I were going to Venice in January, I might like a night or two here, just to see Giudecca thoroughly, but otherwise, I think I'd prefer my usual sorts of options in a more central area.

Hi. Is there anything much to see on Giudecca?

Santa Maria della Salute Church and Hotel Cipriani, for starters... Large cruise ships leaving port...

Santa Maria della Salute is in Dorsoduro, not Giudecca.

Perhaps you were thinking of Il Redentore, a church by Palladio on Giudecca that, like the Salute, is one of the plague churches.

We spent a morning exploring Giudecca, and felt we had seen it all.

actually, I think I might have been visioning San Giorgio Maggiore, which is on Giudecca canal but not the island...(as is the Salute)...

Thanks for the information Travelnut. I have been to the Cipriani and a church which I can't remember the name of. I am going back for my 3rd trip in March and was wondering if it is worth exploring the Giudecca any farther.
