Versailles Guided Tour or Not?

Has anyone done a guided tour of Versailles and, if so, what company did you use or can you book a guided tour directly through the Versailles website? I did the audio guided tour a few years ago but this time with my husband was considering a guided tour.

I have not done one as I don't like museum guided tours usually, unless you have no choice or it's an entire day trip agenda including transportation, etc. I actually like audioguides instead, or just reading stuff on my own. I just don't like folloiwng someone around in a group just for them to say stuff you could just listen to yourself as you wish (or read the curating), and some of it may not be of interest that way.

But If you like that, private guides are allowed to work there and surprisingly I don't think Versailles has its own guides for a general; tour. They do have their own guided tours of the Kings Private Apts, which is separate from the regular ticket. That's just on their website.

BUt if you want a private guide, it depends if you want a personal one or a small group. A personal guide can be very expensive.

Here is one company who does them

That's about 130 euro for an all day one, they also have half day I think for about 88 euro.

We did the King's private apartments tour which was fun as you get to see parts of the palace that you can't access with a general admission ticket. We learned a lot about the palace and then toured the rest of the palace on our own.

Just the size of Versailles makes me lean toward looking at the ones available on-site. We took a general and an apartment tour on our first visit; and a garden one on the second along with the petit trianon. If you go that route, do check online to see what is offered and buy in advance. Lines were long when we were there.

Thanks so much for your quick replies. I was looking at the King's Private Apartment tour but unless I'm mistaken, the dates for June are greyed out. I'm not sure if that means it's sold out or not available for purchase yet. I've emailed them directly to inquire.
