Versailles gardens: questions about entrance

I plan on going to Versailles on a weekday. I've been to Versailles before and have seen the palace, and on this trip I want to go back to see only the gardens. I read on the website that entrance to the gardens is free on days that the Grand Eaux Musicales is not on (if you are not going in the palace).

If I just want to enter the gardens for free, do I still need to wait in line to get a ticket of some sort? Is there a special entrance for people only going to the gardens?

There is a passage way underneath the palace between the east side (the plaza) and west side (the gardens). You just walk right through. Only need tickets to go INTO the building; not through it.

Great, thanks. One more thought - if the gardens are free, are the gardens also closed on Mondays or is it just the palace and ticket booths that are closed?

I was just there, so I checked my brochure. It says the Gardens are open every day, 8am until sunset, which is 6pm to 8:30pm depending on month.

There is no line. Veer towards the left, past the entrances to the Mesdames and Dauphin's Apartments and there is no lineup.

All times are GMT -8. The time now is 04:54 AM.
