Hi Rhonda,

For a casual dinner in Versailles I'd recommend either:

A la Cote Bretonne
12 rue Deux Portes
This place has crepes, crepes and more crepes. Yum! You can order a fixed price menu of, you guessed it, crepes, in two or three courses, or you can just order a la carte. Inexpensive.

Au Chien Qui Fume
72 rue Paroisse
A bit more expensive, but you can order a la carte or fixed-price, about 25E for three courses, I think. Cute place, particularly if you love dogs. Apparently the place got its name from the original owner giving his dog his pipe to hold while he was busy with customers. (There is one other location in Paris too.)

You can walk to either from the chateau. The crepe place is in a little passageway with cutesy shops. Chien Qui Fume is on a corner and is easy to spot.

The water-fountains evening program seems to be something new--and it sounds marvelous.

Thanks, Lutece, I'll write them down.

Underhill, did you mean the TI office in Versailles? Do you think we need to buy tickets in advance or they day of? Were they selling them at the gate?

Caroline Edinburgh:
Wikipedia (?) spelling is the online dictionary i believe composed of anyone submitting definitions. Anyway you can find an answer to anything on it. www.wikipedia.com ?

There's a tourist office in Verailles that's separate from the palace--it's off on the right, down a side street, I think. We turned in our bleacher tickets for better ones before the performance after we walked around and looked at the seating. I think we ended up on folding chairs.

The evening watershow at Versailles sounds fabulous! I'm reluctant to make reservations until we arrive in Paris because of weather considerations. Does making reservations include paying in advance? Does anyone know their policy if you make reservations and then it rains? Does the show go on, or are the guests refunded their money? Thanks for all this info -- it really sounds enchanting!

Underhill Jul 18th, 2005 11:47 AM

I think you could wait until you get to Paris to buy your tickets.

Thanks very much, PalQ - I'd never heard of that before. V. useful.

Nancy45 Jul 19th, 2005 04:44 AM

Thank you all so much for this information. I will check with the tourist office in Paris or call the number direct to reserve tickets!!
