Versailles, Audio Tour, Fountains, Museum Pass

We are going to Versailles on a Sunday in September. The plan is to utilize the Paris Museum Pass.

My reading of the Pass is that it includes entrance into Versailles, but not the audio tour or the fountains.

Are the fountains worth the extra cost? What IS the cost? What is the show - ie, is it a 2 minute quick show, or a 20 minute not to be missed show? When does the fountain show start? We plan to go to Versailles first thing in the morning, so I do not see us staying until dark if that is necessary.

I know that we will want audio tours. Will this void the line-skipping aspect of the Pass? Is there a window where I will be able to get the audio tour but not have to wait in line with others buying tickets? I believe Rick Steves has an audio tour for my ipod - perhaps a better option?

Thanks!

when i went the fountains were 'playing' all day with recorded music boomed in from speakers - a walk around as you want thing. Les Grandes Eaux Musicales i believe (sp?) it is called.

I found it a nice touch and most of the fountains i believe only are on on Sunday - in the gardens not the main fountains by the palace proper.

Well looks like it was 15 euros in 2005 - for what i saw some years before 2005 i would not pay 15 euros but perhaps the show is more more than it was then?

I was also curious if wanting to see the fountains meant you have to stand on a long line for tickets (that we could skip with the museum pass).

According to this site it's 8e, with the fountains on from 11-12 and from 3:30-5:00.

When i went the entrance to the Grandes Eaux Musicales was separate from the palace entry - you did not have to go into the palace to go into the musical water fountains thing in the gardens well away from the palace.

but i did go several years ago so not up on current entry but suspect it must be as it's an 8 euro charge - much less than the palace and for many French who come on weekends just to see it - having seen the palace before.

For 8 euro i'd go - classical music in the gardens of Versailles whilst fountains splash.

<<CD grandes eaux musicales 2005 15 €>>

that's €15 for the CD, me old Pal. €8 is more like it. when we went to Versailles 30 or so years ago there was no separate charge for the fountains, which then only played 4 sundays a year, and we went on one of them. [luck or my excellent planning? I always say the latter].

it was cold, it was windy, it was worth it.

Definitely not to miss.

Okay, so fountains at 11 am.

What about the audio tour? I want to get one, but a long line may change my thinking.
