Versailles and Giverney - Weekend or not?

My wife and I will be in Paris for 6 days (Thurs thru Tues) the first week of September. Two questions...Is seeing Versailles on the weekends with the water fountains active worth the tradeoff of it being more crowded on the weekend? Secondly, Giverney is also a must for us. Should we even consider visiting both on the same day. I'm not inclined that way as I want this to be a more relaxed trip that feeling that we have to see and do everything we can. Merci d'avance pour vos réponses!

They are best seen on different days and weekends will be the busiest days at both places. I've never seen the fountains at Versailles but after reading numerous reports from visitors who have I think the majority of people feel it's not that spectacular. They don't all run at once and only for limited periods of time. The music you hear is just through speakers. But maybe you'd enjoy the fountains. It's something you couldn't know unless you do it yourself.

There are coach tours from Paris that do Versailles and Giverny on the same day and if you google "versailles and giverny tours" or some such combination of words I'm sure you'll find them. If you want to attempt doing it on your own look at this thread:

Here are the tourist office websites for both places:
