Versailles
Can I catch the train to Versailles at the Invalides metro stop? Roughly how much is the ticket? Thanks.

Yes.
A round-trip from central Paris on the RER costs 5,30€ - but if you have an RATP pass for Zones 1&2, a round-trip from Issy to Versailles for 2.90€ will do. A Forfait Loisirs (leisure package) which includes RER fare plus admissions to all of the sights at Versailles is 21,15€. |
Yes, RER line C which terminates a few blocks from the chateau entrance. Tickets probably not more than 5 euro each way - be sure to look at overhead sign for approaching train as some diverge and don't go to Versailles - about every other one does. Buy a 'aller et retour' ticket - go and return - round trip - no cheaper than two one ways but don't have to buy one for return. Two other rail routes to Versailles but this is the best from Invalides area.

Good point. The overhead sign for your train will read "Versailles RG" (the Rive Gauche station), and the engine of your train will have the name VICK on the front.

Does anyone have any idea what time the ticket counter at Invalides RER station opens? We'd like to get to Versailles early, say around 8:00 AM, to grab a bite of breakfast before heading over to the Chateau.

Mike,
Thanks! That works great for us, as it will surely be open by the time we go at around 7:30 :-) Glad to know that, as we want to be there early. Sandy |
