Versailles
How far exactly is Versailles from the center of Paris and what is the best mode of transportation to get there?
|
there are a few ways to get there-bus tours, car or probably the cheapest the metro-it takes around 40 minutes by metro depending on what part of paris you're departing from-any hotel concierge can direct you to a tour if you want that or if you prefer to go on your own any metro station can tell you where to go as well. enjoy your trip!

Thanks for your help.

The "Metro" doesn't go to Versailles, but the "RER", a regional commuter train does. That's how most visitors get to Versailles from Central Paris. The RER-C train ride takes about 40 minutes to Versailles - Rive Gauche. Then it's a few minutes walk to palace grounds.

Hi JJ,
>How far exactly is Versailles from the center of Paris...< Go to www.mappy.com and www.viamichelin.com. Average the two. That will be as exact as you can get. ((I)) |

There are three railroad lines serving Versailles from Paris; the most convenient one for pedestrian access to the Château is RER C to Versailles-Rive Gauche station.
Look on the map below for the nearest RER C station to where you will begin your journey. The one closest to the "center of Paris" is probably St-Michel Notre Dame, from which it's a 37-minute ride to Versailles. http://www.ratp.info/picts/plans/pdf/reseaux/zones.pdf |
Versailles is 17 km or about 11 miles from Paris, where all distances are measured from Notre-Dame i believe. Robespierre's advice is right on.
