versaille to do an organized tour or not
 

We are going to Paris shortly and want to visit Versaille. Has anyone done a good tour of Versaille? Apparently there is a tour of some private rooms? If we buy the Paris Museum pass how does that pass interact with a fee for the tour? thanks!

We did it on our own. Just took the train and purchased the audo. A wonderful place to visit!

The museum pass doesn't have anything to do with fees for a guided tour if it is accompanied and goes to places others cannot (eg, the private apartments tour). So the fee is what it is for anyone, as a pass is just like having a basic ticket and they have to pay for it, also.

They do refer to the audioguides as a "tour" in the regular parts and you get those with a ticket or pass.

I've never taken one, I generally prefer to look at things on my own.

In 2010 we took the Fat Tire tour to Versailles. It was one of the highlights of our trip. You pick up your bikes and guide in Paris at their offices, ride to the train station and then take the train to the city of Versailles. You ride through the city, stop at their open market, pick up food for a picnic. Then you ride all over the grounds of the chateau. After you stop for your picnic you ride to entrance of the chateau, the guide stays with your bikes and you go on the tour. The gardens are fabulous. My husband and I were in our mid 60's at the time and I hadn't been on a bike for several years. We did not find the biking difficult. In fact we are planning to go on another one of their tours this August when we are in Paris.
Whatever you plan to do have a wonderful time. IMO it is hard to have a bad time in Paris.
