From Paris?????

It is possible, since Versailles is on the way to Chartres, and in fact I've done it. I got to Versailles early, before it opened in the morning, and didn't have to wait in line. I had about four hours there - not really enough, but much better than nothing - and I was able to get to Chartres in time for Malcolm Miller's afternoon tour of the Cathedral.

Jahoulih,
Did you drive?

jahoulih Jan 15th, 2003 03:02 PM

No, I took the train.

mike Jan 15th, 2003 03:13 PM

Yes, I would be leaving from Paris.

Jahoulih,
What train do you take from Versaille to Chartres?
Thanks,
mike

There are trains going from Versailles Chantiers to Chartres every half hour or so. There's one that leaves at 13:29 and arrives at 14:20; I think that's pretty close to the one I took.

You can try www.bahn.de or www.sncf.com for schedules.

hi michael and Jahoulih,

Jahoulih,

I am with mike, did you go back to paris 1st then go to chartres? we tried to do what michael is asking 2 years ago and could find no direct line or exchange from versailles to chartres. we ended up going back into paris. because we couldn't find a direct line, we decided to save the 2nd trip for another day. the train to chartres leaves in paris from the Gare Montparnasse station every hour. versaille is on another direct line from paris.

michael, I would not recommend these two trips in one day. although it can be done, by the time we finished touring versaille it was lunch time and we got back in paris a little after 1pm. even if we had made it in time, the earliest we would have been at chartres would have 2pm.

we were glad we did. chartres deserves more than just an hour or two. just a quick note, for chartres, I would not go on a monday as many of the shops and places are closed after busy weekends.

Jahoulih, if did go from versaille to chartres, please let me know how. I was so frustrated by that part of our plan, because like mike, I really wanted to try to do it in a day.

sandyc

Yes, I went straight from Versailles to Chartres without going back to Paris. There are several train stations in Versailles; the one with trains to Chartres is Versailles Chantiers.
