Verona vs Ravenna
Hello,
We are revising our plans for April stay. What would you suggest:stay in Verona for couple of days or just do it as a day trip from Bologna and use a second day for Ravenna. Thank you |
Stay in Bologna and visit Ravenna on a day trip. It's completely unique in Italy and deserves time more than Verona does.
I very much hope you are doing all this by train. As a rule of thumb, try to limit the number of places where you stay to a minimum. It's much easier and less time-consuming to take day trips from a base than to keep changing hotels. A decent map and a look at the train schedules can help you plan. There's a decent map of Italy at http://www.big-italy-map.co.uk/large...-italy-map.htm. Train schedules are at www.trenitalia.com. |
Ravenna is an easy day trip from Bologna by train. We enjoyed it more than Verona.

The mosaics at Ravenna are gorgous! We spent one night there and were so glad that we included this in our grand tour of Italy.

I agree with Zerlina

We recently managed to include a visit to Ravenna after many trips to Italy and found the city delightful and the mosaics outstanding. We were very pleased to have finally visited this unique city--a very chic pedestrian zone with lots of spectacular art and history.
I would think a day in Bologna and another in Ravenna would be best. Verona is nice but not my favorite. Of course, it all depends on your overall schedule and itinerary. Have fun. Paul |
eurosmile,
I don't know Verona, but I spent a week in Ravenna last year and if you are remotely interested in mosaic, you will LOVE Ravenna. Plus it is a neat little city in and of itself. Don't miss it. gruezi |
Thank you very much for all your posts. We decided on Bologna, but unfortunately will be able to stay there for 2 nights only. Our trip overlaps with convention. So 2 nights we will spend in Verona.
