Verona Opera from Venice
 

Is it possible to get to Verona and back, for the opera from Venice, at a reasonable price in the same night?

We have booked to spend a week in Venice, but want to go to the opera and so are considering spending a couple of days in Verona before going down to Venice, although we have already booked our flights into Venice Marco Polo.

If we cant do Verona for the opera in the one night, any suggestions for getting from the airport to Verona, Verona to Venice (Lido) and back to the airport...

There was a thread on this very subject several months ago. I suggest using the SEARCH function on this page and I'll also suggest renting a car for two days or so. Verona is well worth a visit for other than the opera.

The train from Venice to Verona ia 1.5 hours each way. Don't know when the last train is though and I believe the opera is over around 11:00pm(?)

Currently the last train from Verona to Venice leaves Verona at 10:42 PM. I think you might want a car for this unless there is a bus.

Have you considered attending an opera in Venice? Depending on when you'll be in Venice, check offerings at the Tronchetto, Teatro Malibran, or La Fenice.

You won't find a train back to Venice after the opera that night.

And, part of the fun of opera at the Arena is relaxing at one of the open air cafes in Piazza Bra after the opera, watching the world pass by.

There IS a recent thread (within the past 3 weeks?) on going to Verona from the Venice airport, so that is probably your best bet.

The opera in Verona doesn't start until 9:00 and won't be over until 12 or 1 A.M. or later, depending on the opera. Also, the '20 minute' intermissions can stretch to 30 minutes or more. The performance of 'Carmen' I saw last year was over at 1:15. Seeing 25,000 people streaming out of the arena at 1:15 A.M., starting their strolls around the Piazza Bra and stopping for a snack in the sidewalk cafes was a memorable sight.
