Verona & Venice summer fashion

I'm packing for a bike trip in Italy. We will have time to tour on foot in Verona and Venice. This will include some special dinners. I was thinking to wear black leggings with a floral tunic and flats but I've seen no mention of tights or leggings in any of the travel blogs. Are leggings appropriate and are floral tops stylish in Italy? Comfort is important but so is style!

Thanks. Pictures are helpful...I can't seem to find anything on other blogs that are a visual of what to wear for summer in Italy!

Lots of Italian women are wearing leggings with tunics. However, it sounds a little hot to me.

No Italian will care at all what you wear, as long as it's clean and decent. I don't know what kind of special dinners you're going to. There are some restaurants that aspire to be taken seriously and therefore have some sort of dress code. I avoid that type of place.

You'd actually be a little more fashionable this summer if your leggings are floral and your top is plain.

I often wear tunics or dresses and leggings or tights when traveling in Italy ... in September/October. When traveling in Italy during the summer, I simply wear dresses because it is so hot.

But this may be the blog you are lookingn for if you want to pack floral tunics and plain leggings

Sweating like a pig in some outfit that should be hiding something fat rather than emphasizing it is NEVER "stylish."

Thank you! Part of the fun of visiting a new country is being comfortable yet fashionable. You've all been great helps.

Italians have not been terrorized into hiding fat by and large.

<<Italians have not been terrorized into hiding fat by and large.>>

Does that woman count as fat in your book? Geez.

have a look on Pinterest. try searching Italy outfit summer.
I would suggest a dress with a scarf or little cardigan if it's cool in the evening. A dress can fold small. Perhaps a maxi dress. it's all in the accessories. A cute little gold bag or pretty scarf can make a simple black maxi dress look like a millions bucks :)

Cool links.

I found Verona to be quite 'smart' in a very simple/plain sort of way as in dark or black trousers, capris, skirts and tops, plus good quality flat/low leather strappy sandals (which you can buy there - gorgeous range of footwear!) - generally very pared down and prada-esque. This does not for a minute mean you have to rush out and buy designer labels, just to give you the general vibe of the area and what equivalents you might like to look for on the high street.

There will be so many tourists in Venice that no one will even notice you. A tsunami of tourists. The area between Piazza San Marco and the Rialto will look like the scene from "Gone with the Wind" where Aunt Pittypat flees Atlanta.

Bring smelling salts.

I was in both Verona and Venice in September '13. It was as hot as the hinges of hell. I would have died in leggings and tunics. That's just me.

Cotton skirts and tops were much cooler.

Lordy, it was hot.

IMHO that area in summer is just too hot for either leggings or tights. In summer I always wear either very lightweight and loose pants/capris (thin cotton, linen, silk, etc) or airy skirt or light summer dress with bare legs.

But it really depends on how much heat bothers you (I can't stand it).
