Vernazza: Anyone stayed at "Hemitage over the Sea" BandB also called L'Eremo sul mare???

I need any information that I can get on "Hermitage by the Sea" Bed and Breakfast just outside Vernazza. Their website looks very nice but I have not been able to find any feedback from anyone that has stayed there. We are a large group and I am concerned that it might not be big enough for us. If anyone has been there or know anything about it, please post or write me an email. I must do something very soon. Their website is www.ereosulmare.com THANKS!

I just looked at the website. It looks very intriguing but I've done the hike from Vernazza to the next town down and I can picture how you get to the Inn. It's a climb! And a narrow dirt path so you better bring a backpack!

Grasshopper,<BR>Would the walk to the BandB be feasible at night after say dinner in town? Would it be too dark etc.to get back? It just seems too good to be true. The owner speaks very little English and we are having trouble communicating. I am having my former exchange student that lives in Rome call to see about the details and references, but it would be nice to find SOMEONE that has stayed there before. We could also stay in Manarola at the Hotel Marina Piccolo or the Hotel Cinque Terre in Montorroso. Everything is booked in Montorroso. We are traveling with four kids in their late teens so if we stayed in Manarola there would be no nightlife. Do you know how late the trains run between the towns?

I was in CT last Oct. What time of the year are you going? It makes a difference. It was pretty quiet in all 5 towns in Oct., except on the weekends. I've heard the summer is very crowded. We stayed in Manarola. It was very beautiful, as are all the towns, but I think I would stay in either Vernazza or Riomaggiore next time. I really liked Riomaggiore. It was a little livelier - a younger crowd I think. The Hotel Piccolo has a great little restaurant upstairs. The trains run fairly frequently, but if you miss one, it seems like a long time to wait cause you are just out sitting by the tracks. I loved the CT - very relaxing and laid back. Have a great time!!

Ann, It says you walk to the tower and then on for 5 more minutes. Walking to the tower was UP hill and walking along that path, which the website kind of indicates would NOT be something I would want to do in the dark. I could be totally wrong and it could be somewhere else altogether, but I don't think so. The place looks amazingly cool but hard to access.

We are going in July. It will be crowded. We have four older teens in our group so we tried Monterosso just because of the more lively nightlife etc. We will be in Tuscany for a week prior to that so I think they will be ready to get out a bit. Most of the hotels are already booked there but we can get reservations at Hotel Cinque Terre. Could also stay in Manarola but nightlife there is non-existant from what I heard. The place in Vernazza looks really cool but because of the location and trails it takes to get there, I think we will probably skip it this time. Would still love to talk to someone that actually stayed there though. I have heard of the restaurant at the Marina Piccolo.....any others that we may train to for a wonderful dinner out that won't break the bank. I heard the food in Monterosso is not as good as a whole as the other towns. Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I had dinner in Manarola at the Piccolo, which is down by the harbor and also at the little bar/restaurant, I think it is called Bar Astride. The little restaurant is upstairs. We had a wonderful dinner there - the best mixed fresh seafood and a complimentary Schiattra (sp) their special sweet wine, after dinner. We also had dinner one night in Vernazza, can't remember the name of the restaurant, but if you are standing looking at the water, it's to your right. Great calamari. The best tho, was in Riomaggiore. We had lunch at this little place, don't remember the name, but if you are down at the harbor, it's on your left just before you walk down the steps to the sand. We had these wonderful "bruschetta", except they were large, oval pieces of bread with your choice of toppings. I had porcini and anchovies, my sister had tomatoes, basil. They are served on wooden boards. They also give you little dishes of olives and nuts with your drinks while you wait for your food. They were absolutely wonderful. I even took a picture of our plates of food. I look at that now and drool. The funniest exerience was the Piccolo. I ordered pasta with mussel sauce. The pasta was black and when I was eating it, it looked like I was eating worms. Wish I had taken a picture of that.
