Venice,Italy - Regata Storica advice needed

I will be in Venice Sept.2 to see the Regata Storica. I am renting an apartment on calle delle mende in the Dorsudoro area from Views on Venice agency. The apt. looks to be
behind the Peggy Guggenheim museum. Can someone suggest a good viewing area on
the Grand Canal near this location to see the Regata? Thank you in advance!

Yes, you are between the Guggenheim and the Zattere.

We are living in Venice but haven't yet been here for a Regata Storica. I've no idea how the crowds compare, but based on watching other events I'd suggest you try Campo San Vio, the steps of the Salute or the fondamenta alongside the Dogana. We were surprised that the Punta della Dogana didn't get crowded earlier for the Redentore (the most popular festa) - we were able easily to walk from the Accademia right round the point and back as far as the temporary bridge at about 7pm and could still have get spaces sitting on the edge if we'd wanted to - people here don't seem to turn up as early to bag spaces for events as we were used to in the UK.

In case you are interested enough to consider spending the sums required, I've just come across these extra opportunities involving guided tours &/or seats in a floating grandstand - http://www.regatastoricavenezia.it/?lang=en&pg=1&page=1

How did you get on, travelgypsy?

We are on the other side of the Grand Canal so we took our deckchairs along to Camopo San Samuele which worked well. We got there about 2.45 but 3 or probably 3.15 would have been fine.

For future reference, Campo San Vio is no longer a good option for watching events on the Grand Canal as the Accademia 'upstream' vaporetto stop has now moved there and blocks the whole waterfront. (And the police move spectators out of the vaporetto stops for these events.)

Sorry as I just noticed this! Had a wonderful time viewing the regatta and a wonderful week in Venice. Am returning at the end of July for the Festa del Redentore (cannot get enough) so will find another viewing spot - although Campo San Vio was just about perfect!

I haven't been on here for months myself! I'm glad Campo San Vio worked well for you and it's OK again, my last advice is out of date as the boat stop there turned out just to be temporary while work was going on at the normal stop.
