Venice - which B&B is better?
 

We are looking at a quad room at the Corte 1321 or the Casa Rezzonico. The rooms seem to be much larger at Corte 1321, 40 sq m v/s 20 as per the respective owners. Which area would be more convenient, more lively?
Any preferences regarding the places themselves? Thanks.

in Dorsoduro close to Ca' Rezzonico stop

I like both locations, perhaps the Dorsoduro one slightly more, but I consider both good.

We stayed in the quad room at the Corte 1321 it was very nice. I liked the location it was convenient. My kids loved the pizza and gelato from right down the street better than anywhere in Italy. I liked the courtyard, it was nice for bringing food home to eat, plus they have the kitchen where you can store drinks in the fridge or even cook if you wanted. There is a small market just up the street. There is a computer available for use. The breakfast is simple (yogurt, coffe, tea, juice, rolls, and jam) but satisfying. It was just a very short walk to anywhere. Friendly owners and workers. We'd go back in a heartbeat.

Thanks for the replies, and ellenem, thanks again. I had decided to go with Casa Rezzonico after your recommendation of the area but happened to ask them the size of the room & 20 sq m seems rather small to me for a quad.

happytotravel, was it the Gialla room? Was the room fairly large? Were the furnishings of good quality? How long of a walk would you say it was to St Mark's Square etc? If you were walking back at night or if my kids went out alone, was the area lively or pretty quiet?

The San Polo location is perfectly fine. (After being a huge Dorsoduro fan, ately I've been staying in santa Croce.)

Corte 1321 is just off a major route between popular locations. It is quite near Campo San Polo which is a lively area. It is on the other side of the Grand Canal from San Marco, and would be a 20-30 minute walk from San Marco, depending on how well you get to know the way and how quickly you walk.

Ellenem, you think the walk would be about the same from either location?

ellenem, I am also a Dorsoduro devotee. You obviously enjoyed Santa Croce - where did you stay? I've been thinking of Cannaregio next time but...

Our room was faily large it had one bed maybe even a king or large queen, and then 2 additional twin beds. The furnishings were of good quality, plenty of fluffy towels, extra blankets and pillows, AC.

Its hard to describe the location, but its a charming area just off a small square, then you follow some small streets filled with shops, restaurants and you are at Rialto, and then in minutes you are at St. Marks. Its just a short walk with tons to look at along the way.

Thanks for the info. I read in one of the reviews that the quad room was very close to the kitchen and was very noisy in the morning - did you experience that?

I read that review too, no, We did not experience that. The kitchen is at the other end of the hall. We absolutely had no complaints. Its just a small place, like having your own apartment. Just a few rooms, we only saw other quests in the morning at breakfast.

Since both locations are on the other side of the Grand Canal from San Marco, about the same amount of walking is involved. to me, I prefer to be away from san Marco, o this extra time is of little concern. You could take a vaporetto to avoid the walk or a quick traghetto across the Grand Canal to shorten it. to me the distance is no matter. Not everything you want to do or see is by San Marco anyway.

My first visits to Venice 20 years ago were in San Polo and Santa Croce. Then a discovered an stuck with Dorsoduro for a while. Recently I've stayed twice at Hotel Al Ponte Mocenigo and loved the quiet accessible neighborhood with reasonable prices and its easy jump to Cannaregio. Stayed near San Marco once--which was enough.

Hi, any opinions on Corte 1321 v/s Al Ponte Mocenigo? I seem to recall someone saying the area of the Al Ponte Mocenigo is rather dark/deserted at night. We want to be able to walk around so would rather have a slightly more lively and well-lit area. Would the Corte 1321 be a more convenient location?
If anyone has stayed at both, I would love to get a comparison of the rooms.

The last three minutes of the walk to Hotel Al Ponte Mocenigo are somewhat quiet--no lighter or darker than many othe Venetian streets not on a main drag. But during the three minute befores those last three minutes you are in the heart of the busy-ness of the Rialto markets. That's why I like it--close but quiet.

Corte 1321 is excellent and IMO the better choice of the two.
