Venice vaporetto tickets
 

WE're going to be in Venice for less that 36 hours (with 2 kids). Does anyone have experience with the Venice Blue/Orange cards or vaporetto passes? We're leaving on Friday so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry, I don't know anything about the blue/orange, but the vaporetto passes can be purchased at the train station when you arrive.

We used one-way tickets and an extended pass--maybe 24 hours?--it was so easy that I didn't commit the details to memory! You shouldn't have any problems.

How are you arriving ? The Alilaguna water bus from the airport isn't covered by the 24 hour vaporetto pass - you need to buy a special ticket for it at the airport. Then if you think you'll use the vaporetti enough, buy a 24 hour pass (€11 now, I think) at the vaporetto stop when you first go to use one. Bear in mind that it is 24 hours, not 1 day - so if you buy one at midday, you can use it until midday the next day. But if you are staying centrally & only there for 36 hours, I'd have thought you might just walk everywhere ?

I don't think the cards are worthwhile unless you are going to do a lot of the things they cover, which you presumably won't in 36 hours.

I don't know if they sell the passes at the train station as everytime I arrive in Venice by train, I go out of Santa Lucia station rigth away and get the pass at the Ferrovia vaporetto stop as most do. It is possible you can buy it in the station too as you can buy it at Marco Polo airport. Any way 24hr & esp.27hr pass are great value. You can do all the vaporettos including the ones going to other islands (Burano, Murano, Lido) + actv bus between airport and Piazzale Roma.

Venice cards are not economical (for me at least) as many others agreed with me. They include vaporettos, public toilets and museums (Accademia, Guggenheim and a few other important ones are not included). Also maybe one (orange?) includes Alilaguna shuttle boat? They are too expensive for what I would need. I don't go that often to toilets and if I pay the entrance each time to museums as I please, it's more economical. However, I heard some people find it good deal.

You want the 3-day card for €25.

Blue and Orange are for 7 day unlimited use. Orange includes museums and Blue does not. Both include public toilets. We paid €52 for the 7-day Blue.

We'll be returning a rental car so we'll be setting off from Piazzale Roma. I didn't know if the Vaporetto tickets came in passes or if we purchased them individually as we went along. Even though we're staying near Piazza San Marco, I thought the vaporetto rides around the islands and to Murano would be fun for the boys. The Orange/Blue cards didn't seem to be a good deal.

Does anybody knows how much is a one way vaporetto ticket? Thanks

Single tickets can also be bought on board."

If you are only there for <36 hours you do *not* want a 72 hour ticket - at the most you will want 2 x 24 hr tickets.

You've said how you are arriving - how are you leaving ?

We spent a week in Venice last year & didn't use a vaporetto for the first 2 days - just got the boat from the airport then walked everywhere. And in a week there we didn't have time to get to Murano.

Hey Caroline -- We'll be leaving from the Train Station as we're taking the overnight to Luzern. After coming from Rome, Florence and Umbria I figured the boys would have had their fill of churches so a quick trip to see the glass works in Murano might be a little different. I have scheduled the Secret Itineraries Tour at the Doge's Palace which we're looking forward to.

By the 24 hour pass, you do mean the vaporetto correct? The kids are 13 and 11 so I'll need passes for them as well.

We are returning a rental car to Pizzale Roma (from Tuscany) staying in Venice for about 1 and 1/2 days then taking an overnight train to Luzern.

Skio-then you'll probably want to get a one day (24 hours) vaporetto pass there at Pze. Roma. You must validate it, and the 24 hours starts from whatever point you do that. The 24 hour pass is 12 Euros.
