Venice vaporetto
We're arriving in Venice by cruise ship at the beginning of October. Can any fellow Fodorites provide directions to the nearest vaporetto stop from the cruise terminal or suggest a website? I only have an hour or less to get to Saint Mark's Square.
Many thanks |
I believe there are several cruise ship docks in Venice and you would need to get details from your cruise line.

Alilaguna's "Red Line" boat leaves from a pier at the airport and speeds through the lagoon to the Museo stop on Murano (Venice's island of glassblowers). It then continues to the Lido (a resort island that separates the Venice Lagoon from the Adriatic Sea) before heading for Arsenale, two stops near the Piazza San Marco, and the Zattere on the Giudecca Canal side of Dorsoduro.
Two secondary "Blue Line |
When we were in Venice a couple of years ago, our hotel was down the Grand Canal towards the cruise ship piers and it looked like most people were just walking to St. Mark's Square from the ships.

Hi C,
<I only have an hour or less to get to Saint Mark's Square>. WHY? |
If you dock where we did, and we were on the Carnival Liberty, we docked within walking distance of Piazza Roma, the main transportation hub of Venice. From there you can take a vaporetto to St. Mark's. If it wasn't so hot, we would have walked to St. Marks. As it was we got off at Rialto and walked from there. PS, I found the cruise ship personnel not to be very helpful with information if you weren't taking their tours.
