Venice trip planning

Need some expertise please. End of April planning a solo week long trip to Venice.
1. Will the timing be correct?
2. Any recomnendation of where to stay - can afford cost.
Thanks

1. Sure.
2. I have no idea what that means. State your budget in euros or dollars.

April is a good month to go, especially at the end. The weather should be good but you may still get showers, so pack a lightweight waterproof.

I take it that you're saying that cost is no object, but even so an indication of your maximum per room per night will help us.

1. Lucky you.

2. Use Tripadvisor to pick out the hotel. It will give you locations (probably most important for you), cost and amenities. And most important, traveler feedback.

Buon viaggio!

1. If that's when your plane tickets are for, then Yes.
2. Ditto on the Need a budget amount replies

Not knowing your budget I can suggest two places.
Lower end, nice clean place 3 min from San Toma Stop, breakfast etc.
Al Campaniel B&B http://alcampaniel.tripod.com/
Midrange-higher Hotel with great location 5 min walk to Rialito Stop, 8 min walk to P. San Marco.
Hotel Spenlidid Http://splendidvenice.starhotels.com...FQnhQgod-ywA3A
mid-higher end price wise but location pays for it with easy access to most of venice.

1. There is no bad time to visit Venice, although there are observations that Aug is less optimal due to sweltering heat, peak tourism traffic, smelliness, etc, while mid-winter may not appeal to anyone who has an aversion to cold damp conditions, so, yes, April should be just fine. It is not "peak" tourist season, however, there will still be more toursts there than one would prefer, but, Venice is such a great destination, you just have to share it with everyone.
2. I travelled there several years ago, you can search for my TR, so I've been observing these venice related threads for years, and I can assure you that one thing you DON"T SEE is "When in Venice, avoid this rip off hotel" The hotel industry there seems to be very nicely self-regulated, so you can expect to get what you pay for. We stayed at a very nice spot called the Penzione Gurerrero, based on fodors recommendations, and really like it - mid range of price.

End of this month or a year from now? room sbook up months in advance, get on it if you are going in a few weeks, you may already be too late!!!

April sounds fantastic.

Agree about searching with TA for places to stay. There are a number of posters who've written about lodging in Venice as well.

Probably too late for Locanda Orseolo but Domus Orsoni is worth a look.

Have a wonderful time! Love Venice! I've gone solo a number of times and felt very safe and always had plenty to do.

Thanks all for your recommendations. As for hotel probably 150 to 200 Euros should be reasonable for a single person.

Take a look at Hotel American Dinesen. It made my short list. I've opted to stay at an apartment instead.

Our favorite hotel is the Pensione Accademia, where we honeymooned and return again and again. It is an upscale 3 1/2 star hotel, no restaurant, but excellent trattoria 1 minute walk over the bridge. It used the be the Russian Embassy, is an old mansion with 40 rooms, outside courtyard where breakfast is served in the mornig, lovely back garden to relax, a rarity in Genoa.
It is is the Dorsoduo between the Grand Canal and a side canal, out of the craziness around Piazza San Marco, but only a 15 minute walk away. There are some very small single rooms tht are charming, or you could go with a regular double. We like room 43. We are very fond of the staff, think of it as home. There is a place where they build gondolas down the road, so to speak, and it is just 5 minutes from the Zatterie, where you join the Italians in their passeggiata. You are near the student neighborhood and the scene for celebrating the laurea is hilarious. Last but not least you are around the corner from the Accademia museum, well situated to go both early and late.
You may need to book immediately. It is not cheap but a piece of heart is always there. Please salute signor Massimo and signor Luciano. Buon viaggio.

If you are going this April, I suggest you go to www.venere.com NOW and see what is available. As others have said, pretty much any time is a nice time to visit Venice as long as you have weather appropriate clothing! enjoy!

You've waited far too long to get a good, reasonably priced place in Venice. The place is extremely popular. With Venice, you need to plan 4 months ahead, at least. At this ponit, I would wait until the very last minute and hop to find a last minute cancellation vacancy. For what its worth, La Calcina on the Zattare was a good choice.

Ca d"Oro apartment in Cannaregio can be had for couple hundred bucks a night.

Well that's odd. Anyway, try venere or Tripadvisor as suggested.

Or booking.com, where only people who have stayed in a hotel can review it.
