Thanks Thin.

Interesting thread. I say this as one who has been frequently and also desired the "less stress" routine.
As long as you know exactly how far from the v stop your hotel actually is AND you don't arrive at the Santa Lucia v stop at some insane mob scene time (although you can always wait for the next one but who wants to?) I think your plan is fine. As to that trek between the docks at the terminal at the airport, yes it is all flat and it is more or less "covered" (you'll understand when you see it) but I remember the last time we did it (in the other direction) and I finally figured out that only two wheels on a piece of luggage was no longer such a great idea. Enjoy your time in Venice and don't forget San Marco at dusk. |
Just half-serious: Rick Steves says he's timed the walk from the docks to the airport at 7 minutes.
Ten mins. is probably accurate. It's a covered, flat walkway. |
There is a totally enclose walkway connecting the airport terminal with the docks. The walkway also has moving walkways to ease the walk. From the docks, take the escalator or elevator up to the walkway--VERY well marked.
starrs, I'm at the same email address if you have more particular questions about Venice. |
Thanks! I'll write later tonight!

Have fun! And don't forget Dukey's suggestion about San Marco at dusk. (Even better to splurge on drinks and listen to the bands....)
We did all the suggested ways to enter Venice... some work when you're younger -:) My favorite is still the water taxi... if your hotel has it 's own dock and entrance. Nothing like stepping into the lobby from a water taxi. If you can find people going to the same hotel you can share the price. |
Trying to make the decision right now...

Thanks Dayle! We used the Alilaguna and it was easy peasy. Our hotel was just steps from the Accademia bridge and close to the Alilaguna blu stop too. Could not have been easier and the cost was 15 euro. Many thanks to all!
