Vaporetti operate like normal city buses. Each has a specific route and puts in at every stop on their route. Like city buses they are usually crowded (standing room only) and if you have luggage you have to haul it on and off yourself - being careful to move briskly getting off so you don;t interfere with those waiting on the dock to board.

This works only if you can each easily manage your own luggage. (I have seen a couple of elderly americans with way too much luggage looking helpless and trying to ask people to help them transfer from the boat to the dock- and holding up everyone on the boat - then standing on the dock with more luggage than they could move by themselves.

A note about finding your way around Venice on foot. There are directional signs located on the sides of the buildings, usually above normal eye level. These let you know where you currently are, as well as signs with arrows to guide you to the major campos in and around Venice. These are helpful as you wander the back alleys and get turned around. Which I highly recommend you do! This guide will explain a bit of what to look for.

We stayed at the Ai do Mori some years ago.

Walk across the Piazza, in front of the Basilica.

Walk under the clock tower.

Take the first "street" on your right.

Cross one street, after about 40 metres.

The hotel is on your left, after another ten metres. A small steel sign is set on the wall.

We had a great time staying there.

The number 2 line stops at S. Marco Giardinetti. I was on that vaporetto last week.

Anyway, it doesn't matter as the two stops are practically side by side.
