Venice Train Station

Which train station is best for getting to hotel near san marco ?

MmePerdu Aug 20th, 2016 08:36 AM

The only train station in Venice proper is Santa Lucia. From just in front of the station you'd go on to San Marco by vaporetto, a boat bus.

As Mme Perdu notes, you don't really have a choice. You come into Santa Lucia. You take a vaporetto to your hotel, which should have instructions for where to get off.

thank you so much!!

Some trains which are just passing through don't go to Santa Lucia station, but to Venice Mestre station, which is on the mainland, but is indeed in Venice. When buying train tickets, make sure that your ticket is to Santa Lucia, unless you don't mind changing trains in Mestre.

Newspaper kiosks in the lobby of the train station sell vaporetto tickets which may avoid a line-up at the dock.

We were there last July. There was no real lineup for tickets at the vaporetto 1 stop, but there was a very long line just before the stop, at the tourist office, which was also selling tickets.
