Venice to the Amalfi Coast
 

We are three sisters who are returning to Italy for a second trip. We are starting from Vancouver and are considering the following itinierary: London 5 days, Venice 3 days, Amalfi 4 days, Rome 4 days. We would fly into London and out of Rome. For travel to Venice, we planned on flying and would then take the train to Naples. Any suggestions? Any ideas on how long the train takes from Venice to Naples? Is this a crazy itinierary---we had thought of going somewhere in Tuscany instead? Thanks for any and all advice!

Both Alitalia and Meridiana fly Venice to Naples for $122 one way. You could then make your way from Naples to Amalfi.

Check the budget airlines...like Easy Jet. You may be able to fly directly to Naples from Venice or Treviso. A train from Venice to Naples would take 6-8 hours, eating up an entire day.

You could do Rome before Amalfi. From Venice to Rome it's about 4 hours by train. Your itinerary is doable and reasonable. Save Tuscany & the Cinque Terre for your next trip.

We took the train from Naples to Rome (80 minutes) and then from Rome to Venice (I think that was four hours). It did take most of the day but was very relaxing and scenic.

We flew from Venice to Naples two years ago on Air One. Easy. The bus from the Naples airport to Sorrento on the Amalfi coast is easy too, a nice "Greyhound" style bus with luggage storage underneath.

We just came back from a trip to Rome then to Sorrento, off to Bologna, onto Venice then finally to Pescara and then back to Rome. We did this in 13 days. Since we had been to Rome before, we only spent one night there. The next day we took the 3P.M. train to Sorrento and had a private driver waiting to take us to Sorrento which is about a 1 hour away. The Euro Star train runs every hour from Rome to Naples. We spent 3 full days touring from Sorrento. We were able to see Pompeii, Herculaneum, and hired a private driver for 7 hours to tour the Amalfi Coast. We took the 11:50 am train from Naples to Bologna. It took about 3 hours and 40 minutes by Euro Star. We stop in Bologna for an afternoon to see family. Later that night got on the train for Venice which took about 1 hour and 15 minutes. We spent 2 full days in Venice. You may want to see if Trenitalia has a direct train from Rome to Venice. Here is the website: www.ferroviedellostato.it . Thanks to everyone for the train and flight information. Now, does anyone have an opinion on where to stay on the Amalfi Coast. We would love a room with a view but don't have to have 4 star accomodation. We probably won't have a car so transportation may be an issue. Would also appreciate any hotel recommendations in Venice---again, location is our biggest priority.
