Venice, to the airport
What is the best way to get to the airport? I'll be staying in a hotel near St. Marks. My flight is late morning. What are my choices?
|
I posted something similar a while back. I think you can find my post if you click on my name. Our flight leaves at 10:10am from Venice. I think we are going to use the Alinguna (sp?) ferry as it is only 9 or 10E per person. That will take about one hour. If we have lots of spending money left over, we will do a private water taxi (70 - 80E). That would only take 30 minutes. I have heard of travelers splitting the costs for a private taxi.

From our experience, the best and quickest way to and from the airport is with water taxi...but it is also the most expensive at 80 Euros. But if you have someone to share the taxi with, you can share the cost as well.
We just did not have the energy to drag our heavy luggage over bridges and through crowds to a boat--that can many times also be crowded. When deciding, take into consideration how many bridges you will have to cross, how heavy your luggage is and how tired you are. |
We took the Alilaguna to the airport. It was very simple, not too crowded and the crew were helpful with our luggage. We had stayed at a hotel on the Riva Schiavoni so getting to the boat was not a chore. It leaves from the San Zaccaria stop. When you get to the airport, a bus takes you to the terminal. It was a bargain at 10 Euros each.

The Alilaguna is easy. It also makes a stop at St Marks. It is not crowded to the max like the vaporetto. It is a longer trip than I had anticipated so plan accordingly.

Alilaguna is a great service! Easy, not crowded and inexpensive. It has a stop in St Mark's, costs 10 euros and brings you to the airport shuttle for a 2 minutes ride. Couldn't be better. |
I agree that aliluguna is the way to go if you're on a budget. Ours was crowded but not so much so that we couldn't fit our bags in. Like a previous poster said, take into account how many bridges you'll have to cross and how many bags you'll be lugging when you make your decision.

The Alilaguna gets my vote.
Just got back from and Italy and used Alilaguna from Venice to airport. |
The schedule & info for the alilaguna can be found at alilaguna.com I agree if you're staying near San Marco, are 4 people or less & not leaving too early in the morning, this is the best bet. The alilaguna ride is 1 hr 10 mins for 10e/person vs a water taxi ride of about 30 mins for 80-90e/ride. The great benefit of the taxi is for very early morning departures or if you're not staying near an alilaguna stop. A taxi will pick you you up at your hotel if it has a water dock.
