VENICE TO ROME

Hi I am a newbie and would like some advice please.. I'm travelling on my own to Italy late this year and intend to do a few days sightseeing in Venice in my way back from London to Australia, I am flying out of Rome. What is the best way to get from Venice to Rome,I've heard there is an overnight train,if this a good way to go for a mature aged lady travelling on her own. Any suggestions gratefully received

Hi Irene,

Schedules are at www.trenitalia.com/en

It takes only 4:33 hr.

How are you getting to Venice?

<<How are you getting to Venice?>>

See www.whichbudget.com

As for night train service, the peculiar suggestion has been made here before (credit Ben Haines, if I am not mistaken) to "go the wrong way" first - - i.e., Venice to Trieste, I think - - then you can take the 21:25 departure from Trieste (has sleeper accommodations) and arrive Rome at 06:56

Don't get me wrong - - I would not do this, but if you want to try it (16 stops and all), it is a way to utilize overnight service.

Personally, I would use the 4h33m minute service on Eurostar during (spanning) the lunch or dinner hour and enjoy a nice (even if over-priced) white table cloth meal in the dining car. After all, you have to eat sometime.

Best wishes,

Rex

Irene - Alternatively, the budget airline AirOne fly Venice-Rome (Fiumicino).

Hope this helps ...

Thank you so much all for the input, I will look at the airflight and/or Rex's suggestion for lunch/dinner train trip. I did go to the train site but couldn't find the cost but can't seeing that being a factor for that shorter a journey.

The Eurostar fare (2nd cl) Venice-Rome is € 45.

Add another € 10 to the airport.

Hope this helps ...

Hi Irene,

You can (usually) find ticket prices on www.trenitalia.com/en by clicking on the number of the train in the far left column.

You can also simulate purchasing a ticket - takes longer.
