venice to munich by train.

Is this a scenic ride done during the day Venice to Munich. I will be traveling with my 80 year old mother so the time spent on the train does not bother us. Or for the views would Venice to Vienna be a better choice.
We will be traveling the 1st 2 weeks of December, she wants to see the Christmas markets. And has always wanted to see Venice so I am trying to work that in too. Thank you

According to current timetables, the only direct daytime train leaves Venice at 13:28, and arrives in Munich at 20:26.

When you keep in mind that the sun will set around 5pm in December, you will be riding in darkness half of your trip.

To maximize your "viewing experience", you should take an earlier train at 9am, which will require one transfer in Verona, though. With that latter connection you will arrive in Munich at 16:26.

For Vienna two direct trains during daytime:
Dep Venice 0846, Arr Vienna 1702
Dep Venice 1444, Arr Vienna 2144.
Obviously, only the first train will let you see the scenery for all your trip.

Maybe others will comment on views from the train, since I don't use trains for distances that long.

Re. Christmas markets: IMO, you can't go wrong with either choice -- Munich or Vienna.

I think the trip over the Alps Venice to Munich is spectacular. I mentioned in another thread that my husband insisted on a daylight trip on our first trip Munich to Italy and I have to agree it was worth it.
I have never done a Venice to Vienna train trip.

Hi K,

Both are lovely.

V/M takes you through the Brenner pass - of historic interest.

We liked the V/V ride better.

You can see the routes at www.bahn.de
