Venice to Hvar?
hi.. son and i traveling to Croatia in May... we can get to Italy easily but wondering if anyone can give me information on how to get from Venice (or possibly Rome) to Hvar? We thought we'd take a ferry, but only see them from Ancona and Pescara. Can anyone tell me if it would be difficult to get from Venice or Rome to these ports? Thanks much!

www.visit-croatia.co.uk
has lots of information about getting to Croatis indirectly. There is a section on Travelling From Italy to Croatia, and you will find lots of options there, from ferries and trains to buses, or a combination of the three.
Have a great trip.

You can fly quick and cheap from Rome to Split. www.europebyair.com
Then it's a 1 hour ferry from Split to Hvar.
From Venice it's also do-able but not as easy.

There is an overnight ferry service from Chioggia, near Venezia, to Split (www.enermar.it). Ancona and Pescara can both be reached by direct train from Roma, and have overnight services to Split (www.bli-ferry.com, www.jadrolinija.hr and www.tirrenia.it). Local ferries run several times a day from Split to Hvar.
From Venezia, you could also take a train to Trieste, bus to Rijeka, then Jadrolinija's overnight coastal ship to Stari Grad on Hvar island.

There is a catamaran that is 1 hour from Split to Hvar (I've taken it numerous times). There is also a slow ferry which is at least 2 hours. There are also ferries that go to Stari Grad and maybe Jelsa from Split - not sure of times.

Sorry I shouldn't have said ferry-yes, the ferry is two hours. The catamaran is 1 hour and drops you at Hvar Town.
When you go to get your tickets, be specific about which boat you want or they will give you the slow boat.
