Venice to Florence, Rome and back to Venice

My husband and I will arrive in Venice on May 5th.(4:00p.m) we want to stay a couple of days in Venice to browse around and head to Florence and/or Rome after that. We have 5 days total and we need to be back in Venice by 4:30 a.m. on May 11th. because our flight leaves at 6:30 a.m. to Stavanger, Norway. Could you, please, help me put together the itinerary (train schedulle, where to stop first, best bargains, etc.etc.)

Are you arriving from another continent? If it is from Asia, I do not know how you will react to the fatigue and time zome changes, as I have never flown west to get to Europe. You may find it best to stay in Venice until the 8th, at a minimum. I would say - - you should forego Rome, and simply spend one night (the 9th) in Florence. You will clearly need to spend the 10th in "Venice" - - though this is one situation for which it might make the most sense to stay in Mestre, or perhaps even better, the Hotel Johnny in Tessera.

See http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34470700 - - where I asserted that there was no such place, and I was happy to be shown to be wrong.

Best wishes,

Rex

I would spend two nights in Venice. (5th and 6th) I'm not a big fan of Venice but a lot of people here like it. I stayed on Lido island and took the launch in but I'm sure Rex has a very good recommendation for you.

I'd see what I could see there, head out early on the 7th to Florence. Spend the nights of the 7th, 8th in Florence.

If you feel like it take a day trip to Rome on the morning of the 9th to the Vatican City and see whatever else you want to see there.

Stay in Florence on the night of the 9th go back to Venice on the 10th at your leisure.

A day trip to Rome from Florence isn't difficult, train service is good and no bags to keep track of.

Have a good trip!

Hi nari

With only 5 days, I would do either Venice only with a side trip to Padua or Verona, or train immediately to Florence for 3 nights and train back to Venice for 2 nights.

PS,

If it's possible to change your airline bookings, you can fly out of Florence at a much more convenient time.
