Venice to Croatia
My husband and I are flying in to Venice and want to spend four days in the Slovinia / Croatia area. We have been to Duborjnak so are not planning to travel that far.
I'm trying to decide whether we should go north through the Triglavski national park area, staying in Ljubljana and then going south to Rijeka then along the peninsula with Rovinj no stopping in Trieste on our way back to Venice.
The other option would be to stay along the coast and go south along the coast of Croatia south of Rijeka for a couple of days.
Both trips we would do the peninsula that includes Rovnj.
Since we have never been to this part of the world, we could use help. I love the old world charm of Euroope and my husband loves beaches.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Four days is so little time - or does that not include travel days? - that I wouldn't dare go south of Rijeka especially if you need to return to Venice at the end.
I'd probably keep it simple: maybe rent a car in Venice, drive to Ljubljana, drive to Rovinj, make a few stops like Lake Bled or a few of the Istrian hill towns. Or take a ferry from Venice to Rovinj, rent a car there and just drive around, then return the car in Rovinj and ferry back at the end.

I would do the ferry/rental car plan and explore Istria. For some beach time, look into the Premantura/Cape Kamenjak area.

May be tha catamaran (not ferry) makes only sense if it matches with your arrival time at VCE. The alternative would be train from Mestre to Trieste plus local bus to Istria. But here again: have a look at the timetables before fixing your itinerary.
