Venice to Castelrotto
This summer we'll be driving to our Hotel Zum Wolf in Castelrotto from Venice. Can anyone suggest a scenic route and maybe lunch suggestions for our drive to the hotel??
Following our 2 day stay in Castelrotto (where we plan to visit Bolzano and do a bit of sightseeing around our area) we then drive to our hotel on Lake Garda. I would imagine this is when we would see some of the Wine Route?? Looking forward to suggestions before we map out our route. Thanks!! Vino |
Hmmm ! Sounds familar--been there done that. The most scenic will be via Cortina and then the road thru the heart of the Dolomites. Spectacular, but will take most of the day.

Bob- But have you done that w/five other families (25 people)?? LOL!
That's why I'm looking forward to my "vacation" in Santa Barbara- after my travels through Europe!!! In your opinion- shoud we take a shorter route so that we reach the hotel and then focus on our sightseeing then??? V |
Your call--you know the group.
The drive via Verona and north is fast and easy. Get a pic for me of the church in the meadow just outside Seis. It is worth a trip. |
Vino - Rather than visiting Bolzano from Castelrotto why not visit en route to Lake Garda?
You could spend the morning there then join the wine route from there - it starts just out of Bolzano ... Steve |
Thank you Bob and Steve! I appreciate your help and suggestions as always!!
Cheers! V |
Somehow, in my readings, I missed the discussion of the wine route starting outside of Bolzano. Steve or anyone, since we are driving from Lake Garda to Ortiesi, could you tell me exactly where the route is (or direct me to where I can find the info)? Am I correct in thinking that it is between Garda and Bolzano.
Thanks. We leave tomorrow night for our long planned and much anticipated trip to the lakes, the Dolomites, Venice, and Milan. -Margret |
Margret - Have a great trip :)
Yes - you can join the Wine route north of Trento at Salorno and continue north through the main centres - Caldaro and Appiano: http://www.dolomiti.it/speciali/stradadelvino/dxeng.htm http://www.tiscover.it/it/guide/5it,...ang=en&Go= Buon viaggio! Steve |
