while I am not going to venice for the hotel rooms I am trying to make sure i have room for my 15 y/o daughter and the two of us. I get confused when I see info saying there are 3 twin beds in a triple, and most hotels dont have rooms bigger than doubles. Are the twin beds all seperate and the size of narrow american twin beds or are they the size of a full bed? I am not even sure which part of Venice I should stay. Some larger rooms are on Lido beach. Is that too far from the action, or will it be easy to get around. I'm not worried about getting lost. I hear that's part of the magic and adventure of Venice.

I'm confused by your post. Are you looking for a triple -- a room to accomodate 3 people? Last year, my family had a triple at the Pensione Accademia for around 245E, and we loved it. It was really 2 bedrooms and one bathroom in the Dorseduro, a nice part of Venice more convenient than the Lido.

In europe many double room do not have double beds at all but 2 twin beds (yes, regular narrow twin beds) and typicaly a triple room would have either 3 narrow twin beds or one double bed and one twin bed. Some hotels have family rooms with other types of arrangements - but you would need to enwuire about this directly with the hotels. It is very rare for a hotel in europe to have two double beds - as is common in some areas of the US. (Space is at way too much of a premium and rooms are typically toosmall for this.)

Would not recommend staying on the Lido. It is bascially a beach resort with not much else to see/do. And the boat ride back to the center of town, while not costly, slows down everything else you're trying to see and do.

On our recent trip to Italy, we stayed in several hotels in triple rooms. Almost every room had two single beds pushed together, not as large as a king in the US, but more than adequate, and another single bed. The extra bed was not quite as wide as an American twin bed but it was fine for our large, 18 year old son. Most hotel rooms were smaller than in the U.S., but very nicely appointed. In Venice we stayed at the Hotel Ala, which we liked very much. The location is great, it is very clean, great breakfast, good bathroom. We paid 135 Euros per nite, at the end of March. Hope this info helps.

As noted, the Lido is an island outside Venice. You will have to take the vaporetto back and forth.
