Venice: restaurants near St Mark's Square
 

We are staying in Venice next week and would welcome suggestions of medium priced restaurants within walking distance.

I also like Da Raffaele, Ponte delle Ostreghe, 2347, San Marco. phone 041 523 2317. They don't frown even if you just order pasta and no main course. Attractive setting along a small canal. Casual, but not jeans in my opinion. Dine outside in good weather. Excellent fish, other dishes available. Restaurant is next door to Do Pozzi hotel. <BR>Restaurant Ai Mercanti, San Marco 4346, phone 041 523 8269. Set menu. A la carte would have been more expensive. Very good food in attractive casual setting (but not a jeans place) on a narrow street in San Marco area.

Dear Tricia, <BR>The further you wander afield from St. Marco, the less expensive and more...interesting the restaurants (and everything else) become. Nothing is a huge distance from anything in Venice unless you have problems walking. Do a search on this forum for Venice restaurants, and take a look at the book Cheap Eats in Italy - but don't be afraid of heading off to explore new areas of Venice. That's what vacations are for!

While I generally agree with the contention of better quality and value away from Pzza S Marco, I stand by my recommendation of a little place off the main square - - Ai Falciami Birreria. <BR> <BR>It was better the first time I was there than the second - - so dont take it to be some "miracoloso" find... I just think it is competent, friendly, with good food and good prices... <BR>
