Venice - Restaurants

Looking for restaurant recommendations or 'stay away' recommendations for Venice? (lunch and dinner)

elaine Jun 27th, 2003 12:17 PM

Generalization:
Stay away from restaurants, especially around Piazza San Marco, that advertise having a menu turistico. It may seem like a price-fixed bargain, but too often those places are tourist traps with bad food and inflated prices. Nothing wrong with a set price menu, it's the menu turistico I'm commenting on.

One of my favorites in Venice is Da Rafaelle in Venice, and as it happens, not too far from P. San Marco, attached to the Do Pozzi hotel, overlooks a small canal. Good food, pretty setting outdoors, and for Venice, moderate prices.

If you look at the Venice Destination section elsewhere here at Fodors.com you will find restaurant recommendations with rants and raves comments from previous restaurant clients.
I have a long file on Venice; if you'd like to see it, email me at

Here's a recent thread about restaurants in Venice. If you'd like to find more, you can type "venice AND restaurant" into the text box at the top of this page.

I just posted my lengthy trip report including Venice. We ate at Da Raffaelle and agree with elaine - ate there twice and had a delicious bellis there! Restaurants on the Dorsoduro seem cheaper. Casin Dei Nobili near Campo San Barnaba was good too.

whoops - read bellini, not bellis
