Venice restaurant recommendation
Hi,my fellow citizens of Fodorville-
I was doing some spring cleaning(it's about time!) and came across a receipt for a gem of a little place I found in bella Venezia.I'm so happy, as I hadn't written the name down and wouldn't know how to find it again without the address.
On my last of three evenings in late February I was solo,as my travel partner was back at the hotel (Pensione Accademia) with the flu.I wanted to get a look at Piazza San Marco at night , which I hadn't done. The streets of Venice are gloriously empty in the evening,at least in late February! It was magical. Anyway,I digress. I wandered in to a little place that most people would not even give a second glance, but being a reverse snob,I'm always looking for those little places (to balance out my meal at Harry's!)The restaurant is Tavernetta San Maurizio .It's near P San Marco. There's no address given, but the # is 041.5285240, so if you're in Venice you could look it up in the phone book or give them a call.
It's a tiny little place with indeed a tavern atmosphere.I had a wonderfully delicate fritto misto di pesce (mixed fried fish and seafood), some sauteed spinach and a half carafe of wine for 21 euro, service, etc. included. This would be a great place for families,as there were several there, mostly French,English,German.Anyway, the next time I'm in Venice,I'll be sure to return, but in the meantime,I hope one of you will so that I can have the vicarious pleasure!
