Socaltraveler - what a PIA is right! For all that bluster about traveling to Venice more than any person on Earth....not a SINGLE restaurant suggestion came my way....jeez.

Like you, we are so excited that we get to see Venice, albeit for just one day and the next morning until our train leaves for Rome right after lunch.

We're just so happy we're going to Italy! But if I can narrow down some restaurant choices either through this forum, or as someone suggested, chowhound, then I don't need to try to figure it out when we arrive. We want to make the most of our time in Venice.

I agree Holly....I just want to be able to narrow the list down to a few choices. Great food at reasonable prices is important to us and I suspect there's going to be some really amazing meals coming my way!

As a backup, I would think that some of the better hotels would have good restaurants and be open on Easter. Again, check some of the restaurant review sites beforehand. And, I would suggest a reservation.

I did have a good dinner one night at my hotel, Hilton Molino Stuckey.

Will follow this thread for restaurant recommendations as we plan to visit Venice in May.

I hope it's ok to ask here - we will arrive at Venice on 01-May. Since, it is International Worker's Day, is there any impact for tourists ? I mean restaurants or attractions can be open/closed, local transportation, provision stores etc.

Few reasonable Venice restaurants/eating joints which has good reviews in Yelp are :-

a) Dal Moro's
b) La Zucca

Thanks for the Yelp review, RajatMakar.....I'll report back about the crowds and restaurant availability on Easter Sunday....that might give you and indication of what to expect May 1.

Is Ai Promessi Spossi a cicchetti-type restaurant? Or does it offer full sit down meals?

Judy_rosa, if you google Ai Promessi you will see that it offers full sit down meals.

Judy, Ai Promessi Sposi has a bar in front where you can stand and eat cichetti and tables in back where you can sit and eat a full meal.

If you want to move around and stick to cichetti, you can do that there, also at da Alberto which is close by, and down the street at Alla Vedova.

La Zucca is closed on Sunday. So Easter, and May 1, are not going to work.

The good thing is, all of these are close to your hotel and you can walk. You already know from this thread Ai Promessi Sposi is recommended. It's more casual than the other two.

Vini da Gigio is also very good, but they have two seatings on Sundays (maybe every day) so if you are in the 7 pm seating and need more time you'll keep folks waiting, and if you are in the 9 pm you may have to wait. Fine for most days, with jet lag not so much. It is IMO quite a bit more expensive than Ai Promessi Sposi and for the same quality of food. They have a fantastic wine list.

I have not been to Fiaschetteria Toscana in years but it is always busy when I pass by, and it has a good reputation. It would be the easiest to find. Hopefully someone has a recent experience they can give you. There's a cool bar down the street just next to it, go down the Calle to the right and around the corner, and you can get a wine or grappa to drink at the edge of the Grand Canal. Their hours are weird, but they are usually open Sundays. It's called Remer.
