Venice - reservations

Can anyone recommend a nice, clean, mid$$(75-125) hotel close to the square - will b there Sept. 21 and 22. Having a hard time finding a hotel that's not booked. Or any other recommendation you might have that's walking distance to the action.

Fat chance, for a weekend in September of THIS year.
If it were me I would get on the phone to a reservations center connected with tourist info, today!

I haven't done this in a few years but I think there's a tourist office in the train station that will find a room for you. There's usually a long line and you can't be too picky, but they'll probably find something.

Linda
try www.venere.it, a well-thought-of
booking and information source

Linda - don't worry too much. There was one of these questions a while ago (ie, "I'm leving this weekend...") and the Fodors people came up trumps. I would second the venere.it website which allows you to search all their hotels for the relevant dates in one go. In the end, the poster I remember seeing went with venicerentals.com, who I have also booked with for October.

Try Hotel Caneva, near the Rialto Bridge. Tel. 041-552-8118 or fax 041-520-8676

Hi Linda,
try with this operator who has helped me 2-3 times. [email protected]

Dear Linda,
I sympathize. I must have Emailed 20 hotels in July before I found anything. Elaine's suggestion about booking services were very helpful - www.venere.it and also charmingvenice.com. Two other hotels had room at the time I booked, the Falier which is a bit out of the way but a friend stayed there and liked it and its also recommended by Michelin. Also La Fenice had rooms in late July but I decided against that though its supposed to be a good hotel because there may be construction as they are rebuilding the Opera House. However, I think you may have to pay at least $125 if not more - I was shocked at the prices quoted and the fact that everything was full up particularly at the more moderate rates.
