Venice Question
Could anybody please tell us the best way to get from S Marco Square to the Santa Lucia train station at 5 a.m. on a Saturday morning?
Will vaparettos be running at that time - and if so, do they go from the square to the train station? We are going to try for a 5:30 a.m. train to Vernazza in Cinque de Terre. If we can manage to get ourselves to the train station at 5 am will this be enough time to buy the tickets? Thanks very much for any help with this. |
The vaporetti run all round the clock from Piazza San Marco to Santa Lucia, though they are much less frequent at night than in the daytime. Schedules are on www.actv.it.
You should buy train tickets the day before. There may be no ticket offices open at that time of the morning, and I wouldn't fancy trying to master a ticket machine whilst half-asleep. |
Hi Geoff
Yes, you make an excellent point - we certainly appreciate your post, and will definitely try and buy ticket the day before. |
megamiles-- are you planning on returning to Venice the same day? I am wondering if that is doable for us.
Thanks! Liz |
Hi Liz
No - we are staying for 4 days in c5. I think the train from Venice is 7 or 8 hours. I think it may be too much to do it in a day, but maybe some more knowledgable folks would disagree. |
I figured it was way too much to do it in a day (I am at work without my maps).
But since you are leaving at 5am, I thought perhaps you were doing a daytrip. Have a nice time in Italy! We go in March. Liz |
