Venice places to eat

My friend and I will be spending 3 days in Venice in June.We are both adventurous types. The last time I was in Venice I was with someone who was petrified of getting lost, and we stayed in the tourist areas. Now,we want to explore out of the way places. We want to find some good places to eat that we would not find on our own,and maybe a place to have some wine at night with locals. Can anyone help us?We are staying near the Rialto Bridge.

We loved Alle Testiere. And found it a challenge to find, but definitely worth it for the great seafood.

The only memorable meal we had in Venice was at Promessi Sposi, a great little restaurant tucked away off of Strada Nova. We kept trying to eat at Al Timon, which had received good reviews and was close to our apartment – but for a couple of nights it was closed and then when they were open, we were there too early for dinner!

The following are excellent ad away from the tourist areas:
Da Alberto, near the Chiesa dei Miracoli, Cannaregio.
Vini da Gigio, Cannaregio
L'Anice Stellato, Canareggio

We had a very good meal at the Osteria San Barnaba, just in front of the church of the same name in Dorsoduro. There is a also the Cafe dei Artisti just in front, our favourite place for a Spritz!

We enjoyed Al Nono Risorto - it felt like a local place, at least (I'm assuming it is one), which is very hard to do in Venice. The food was traditional Venetian (I had the very traditional cuttlefish in black ink sauce). We got the two-course fixed menus and both were under €20.

While there last week, I heard great things about Osteria alla Botte -- very local and fun, on Calle degli Stagneri off of Campo San Bartolomeo. But we never got to go! Must have reservations. 041 5209775

Our favorite place is not far from Rialto in Santa Croce on Calle dei Morti, called Osteria Antico Giardinetto. Amazing mixed fish grill and desserts (and our friends loved a sort of garbanzo bean soup....). It's small, so reservations are usually needed. I also loved having lunch on the deck of Algiubagio at Fondamente Nuove. Gorgeous view of San Michelle, and we just walked up on a brilliant sunny afternoon and ordered the delicious pasta specials.

A second vote for Alle Testiere. It is tiny and has two seatings each evening. It is essential to reserve in advance.

I'll second Al Nono Risorto. We were in Venice for three nights and opted to eat there twice, pizza both times. I know that sounds crazy; we love pizza but live in an area that doesn't know how to make a decent one (i.e. lots of cheese=good). We sat outside in the courtyard and just drank in the ambiance. At that time they accepted cash only.
