Venice or one more day in Florence?

Hi,

I have one more question in planning a trip to Italy in March.
As of now, the itinerary is 2 days/3 nights in Florence; and 3 days/3 nights in Venice. Would it be better to spend an extra day in Florence and go to Siena? Or would 3 days in Venice be a better choice? I have never been to either of the places..

Thanks!

I think 3 days/3 nights is enough in Venice. We spent 4 nights/3.5 days there and loved it, but that was plenty of time to see what we wanted to see and just wander around and enjoy ourselves. I'm sure others will say that you should spend more time in Venice. Depends on what you want. If you want more time to just be there and enjoy the atmosphere, or whether you'd rather see another place even for a short time. There were certainly things in Venice we did not see, but I felt that the 3 days was enough.

Hi VE,

I would not give up a day in Venice, even for Florence or Siena.

We have been there at least 8 times and have not yet seen all we want to see.

I, too would not give up a day in Venice. I've spent 9 days there so far and haven't even come close to scratching the surface of my "must see" list. That being said, after 4 trips to Florence my "must see" list just keeps getting longer! You have a real dilemma on your hands.

After 2 days I thought I had "seen" Venice. After a week I had to be pulled kicking and screaming onto the plane, because there was still so much I wanted to do.

But I loved Florence as well. To me Florence is more Italian (I realise this makes little sense). Venice is just Venice. It is unique.

I would take one day from Venice and add it Florence.
Venice is unique and beautiful, but for me, in Florence are so many, many places, museums, palaces,to visit, that one week is not enough!

I'm afraid you will never get "the" answer to this one!

Quite true. Further to my earlier post where I said I thought 3 days in Venice was a good amount, I will add that when we left I looked and felt like the saddest person in the world. While I thought we did have enough time to see everything, I loved just being in Venice because it was such a unique and amazing place. That is why I said it depends on whether you are the type of person that want to just see the sights and go to the next place, or just want to be there and enjoy simply being there. A real dilemma, but you can't go wrong either way.

I would probably add the day to Florence and take the daytrip to Siena. Sure, both cities have a lot to offer but it would be nice to see some of the hilltowns in the countryside as well.

Thanks everyone! I think I am still confused though... :)
