Venice or Lake Como?

We may be changing our itinerary for our honeymoon in early October (current reservations are for London-Normandy-Paris). We can fly in and out of Frankfurt and/or Zurich (due to frequent flyer reward sale, saving lots of FF miles) and would like to see Munich & Bavaria, western Austria, and either Lake Como or Venice. We have 10 days-- would you recommend either Lake Como or Venice? Or is this too ambitious? Any advice is greatly appreciated. We are also thinking about renting a car for the trip.

Thanks.

If you are good at planning, you can do this trip without too much trouble.

By all means, try to get to Venice for a few days. It is incredible.

If you are interested in Austria, limit yourself to the area around Innsbruck (because of your time limit).

I just got back from 12 days, and I managed to see Munich, Lucerne, Florence, Venice, and had dinner in Innsbruck. (It took A LOT of planning, but it was worth it!)

Have fun.
Deborah

Lake Como would be a romantic place for honeymooners but nothing beats Venice. If you look around on this site for a thread on favorite cities in Europe many people chose Venice over all the other wonderful places. It is a must see.

I can't comment on the manageability of your itinerary, but making the decision between Lake Como and Venice is easy-- go to Venice. It's a remarkable place to be and unlike anywhere else. I think it's also one of the great romantic places to be. Strolling through the city and getting lost, listening to the gondoliers, taking the vaporetto down the Grand Canal...it's definitely magical. And October should be the perfect time of year to go.

Lake Como is beautiful and a wonderful place, too-- but Venice is unique. So if you have time for only one, definitely make it Venice.

Don't know how you are spreading out all your days, but the two areas are not that far apart by train, and one night at Lake Como would give you a taste..soo, you might be able to swing both. Think about it.
