Venice or Florence
 

Dear Friends ,

I am planing a 2 day trip tour to Italy in Aug16. I am to choose between Florence or Venice before booking my itenary. In other forums , both has equal weightage and am unable to decide which place to go. Can any travel experts suggest which should be a better one to go ? I am basically interested in art/archeteture / medeival arts / museums kind of lover . Your suggestions to fix Florence or Venice , wil help me book my itenary without any dilemma or regrets ! I will be starting from London as well.

Florence has MORE of what you say you are interested in than does Venice, and Venice has a lot.

Oh dear what a dilemma - but where on earth has canals for streets ?
Venice - no question

There's nothing wrong with Florence, and it has ample art and architecture. But Venice has plenty of that, too, and, well, it's Venice.

You'll be fine with either one, but Venice is my choice.

While I love Venice with such a short time I would pick Florence - where you can see a substantial part of the city/major sight. Venice is, after a few major sights, a matter to wandering/exploring and really needs more time.

Not sure when you are going but In August both are not only incredibly hot and humid but also packed to the gills.

OK, in the interest of honesty I have to tell you that I spent three nights in Venice this past week and will be spending a few more next August.
Venice seemed quite warm this year and a lot of people were running around in shorts as they were in Verona and are here in Zurich where i aam typing this.

Yes, Venice has those lovely canals, or at least ONE which is the one most people see. There are other, smaller ones and if you are willing to walk around in the neighborhoods somewhat away from San Marco, the Rialto,and the Accademia you may find it all to be quit charming. Even San Marco with its tourist throngs gets quite magical at dusk and is certainly memorable.

I still maintain that for all those elements you say you enyoy that Florence has MORE of them than does Venice and yu could easily say that Florence is, well...Florence.

If you could do some of BOTH that might be worth considering.

where are you coming from and going to? 2 days [does this mean 2 nights? or 3 nights? or even 1 night!] is a very short time for a whole country. If you are coming from elsewhere and going to somewhere different, that might affect your choice.

Thanks much for your detailed and descriptive information and the places of interest which I am not aware of! Yes, Venice , I really dont want to miss the lovely canals !! All I have in my mind is , to visit both places ., but I have three days only there in Florence. So , one or two days I plan to dedicate for veince. I hope its a 2.5 hr travel from Florence to Venice...I will try my best !! Thanks again.... :)

Yes, thanks for your valuable suggesions..I am coming in mid august next months, yes , it seem to be hot that time..but as I may face a time crunch ,I have to plan best possible whether i can make it to Venice...Thanks again!

I have'nt been to Italy , hence just want to have a feel of it!

I am staying 2 nights and 3 days at Florence . So, the duration is short , but let me how best I can enjoy my stay . I will try spend time in seeing the Renaissance architecture , that I am much in love..!

Two nights is OK -- but just so you know it won't give you 3 days. Typically two nights results in 1.5 days free to see and do things.
