Venice on Sunday
 

One of our two days in Venice is a Sunday. Will anything be open? We are not really planning on shopping (dollar WAY to weak) but we want to be able to walk around and get a snack and of course nice meals and boat rides. Am I out of luck or is it like Southern Baptist country where we open up after church? Thank you for your help.

A few shops might be closed, but you'll have no problem finding plenty of bars and restaurants open. And the boats run all day, every day ...

The main effect is that churches are mostly shut from about 1pm.

Venezia is normally busier with visitors on Sundays than on other days. It's the one day of the week when Italian families can go out for the day, so there will be lots of day trippers from other parts of northern Italy. It's therefore the one day when restaurants and snack bars are sure to be open. The presence of ItaIian families out to enjoy themselves for the day actually gives a nice atmosphere compared with a weekday when foreign tourists predominate.

Many Italian families, whether in their home towns or visiting Venice, like to go out for Sunday lunch.

If you have a particular restaurant in mind for lunch, I would suggest reserving ahead.

I'm planning to go to Burano and have a wonderful lunch there on Sunday. Great ferry ride there and back and a magnificent island . .
