Venice on a Monday - what to do?

I keep hearing/reading that a lot of museums and shops close on Mondays. Any advice or suggestions on how to make the most of a 3 night/2.5 day stay in Venice with a Monday included? Any "must-sees" for Sunday or Tuesday?

I don't think that much is closed. On the Monday we were there we went to the Doge's Palace including the Secret Itinerary tour, and San Marco. We had planned also to visit the Museo Correr & Museo Archelogico, so they must have been open too, but never got round to them.

Of course, opening hours might depend on what time of year you are there. We went in June.

Whatever, any good guidebook should tell you the opening hours of everything & give you ideas of what you most want to do in the time available.

No worries, mate.

The big churches alone would fill up a day's wandering.

There are so many shops, you won't miss a few that might be closed.

Giving the vaporetti a good workout to the islands, or the Lido after dark.

In addition to the churches, the Doge's Palace, the Correr Museum, the Guggenheim Collection, the Accademia (most of the day) are open

Thanks - sounds like plenty... We may switch the order of our trip in order to avoid the acqua alta as much as possible. Full and new moon would be the WORST time to be there, with the extra high tides. We are planning out trip for mid- to late-Nov.

I may be a little perverse, but I enjoyed the aqua alta. The minor flooding was exciting - Locals walking around in designer gumboots, Tourists walking precariously across the raised duckboards, the interessting game of trying to get back to Fondamente Nove without getting my feet wet (The vaporetti were unable to get under some of the bridges).

I thought it all added greatly to the "experience"

Willit, Thanks for your notes. I'm sure it won't be bad - probably adds to the atmosphere! I'm the kind of person who goes outside when it rains anyway...
